GREENBEAN COFFEE HOUSE·FRIDAY, APRIL 26, 2019·
We are the Greenbean Coffee House and our agenda is 100% inclusion for all.
The Greenbean was created so that everyone in our community, no matter race, creed, political beliefs, sexual orientation, gender identification, financial status, nationality, or disability, has a place where they belong and are welcome. If you are a bigot, racist, fascist, or bully…the Greenbean Coffee House is probably not your cup of tea. (pun intended)
Growing up in an abusive home and experiencing the loss of her mother at a young age, Catherine “Katy” McCabe spent many years on her own. Originally from New York, and without family support, she struggled with the burden of never feeling like she belonged to a specific place or community. Growing up as a Hispanic American, she also experienced the cruelty of racism. As she grew in life, she found comfort in coffee (a staple of her childhood), music, the arts & theatre, all while she concentrated her focus on her career and growing family.
Travis McCabe, was born and raised in Hollidaysburg, PA. Raised by a single mother, he learned early on the struggles of growing up in a financially underprivileged home. Travis spent years as a single dad, working hard to provide for his child and create a better life for the both of them. Much of Travis’ adult life he spent donating his time and energies to those less fortunate. He always felt like there was so much more he wanted to do to help his community, but was never in the position where he could.
Fast forward to many years later when Travis and Katy met, fell in love, and created a strong and supportive blended family. They now had a family and a home where they both felt like they belonged, and they decided they wanted to extend that belonging to anyone who was seeking it.
When Travis and Katy decided to open their coffee house, 3 things were very clear.
#1 The Greenbean would be 100% inclusive to ALL of the community. No detail was spared in creating this space, all the way to the Unisex bathrooms that were built.
#2 The Greenbean would be a major hub for our community. Music, art, theatre, and all other forms of Artistry would be incorporated into our foundation.
#3 The Greenbean would use its platform and proceeds to help the various non-profit organizations in our community....All while selling the best coffee and espresso based drinks in our area!
While we have made many business owner friends and have collaborated with many local companies, the Greenbean Coffee House stands alone. We don’t do “cliques” as we believe they are very “exclusive.” We believe in supporting all businesses within our community, big and small, no matter their location. Ultimately, all businesses, regardless of industry, are providing jobs and income to the residents of our community and that is crucial to our economic and social development.
Thank you for taking the time to learn our story. Words can never explain our gratitude to each and every one of our community members that have welcomed us to their lives. Because of you, we have already begun to make so many positive changes in our area.
And always remember, “Life is too short for bad coffee”
Travis, Katy, Julian, Braedon, Adrian, & the Greenbean Staff
We pride ourselves on providing organic, fair trade tea and coffee. We work with local dairy suppliers and bakeries to source the freshest, highest quality offerings.
A great coffee shop becomes a hub for social interaction, and all kinds of great things can happen as a result of these interactions. People feel more connected and less stressed, friendships are formed and strengthened, community problems are solved, and business deals are struck.
Although we offer a wide variety of hot and iced drinks, we also provide savory and sweet food options. So whether you're stopping for your morning coffee, lunch, or an afternoon snack, we've got you covered!
